“The Bells have a fantastic reputation not just in the Northwest league but throughout college baseball,” he said.
Some of the alumni from the Bells include Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, Jake Locker and Omar Vizquel. A big portion of Bells players go on to play professional baseball all over the country.

For six hours, five bands and 13,000 fans packed into Civic Stadium Saturday afternoon for the long-awaited Double Major concert. The event was the largest music concert in Bellingham’s history, according to a press release from the Mayor’s Office.
The bigger they are, the harder they fall
Bigger doesn’t always mean better when it comes to Western club sports playing bigger Division I schools in regular season competitions.
Western’s student population is one of the smallest when it comes to the schools the sports clubs compete against. The largest school Western regularly competes against is the University of Washington whose population is just over 43,000 students. The smaller schools in the league include Central Washington University, Whitman College and Eastern Washington University.
Fresh faces for women’s soccer team
The Western women’s soccer team will be adding many new faces to the roster for the 2019-2020 season.
With eight seniors graduating before the fall season begins, the team has recruited nine new members. Head coach Travis Connell said two of the incoming players, Libby Hielkema and Payton Neal, will be the impact players to look out for.
Ski to Sea swimming in volunteers
April is National Volunteer Month, and marks the beginning of the preparation process for one of Bellingham’s biggest volunteer-run events, Ski to Sea. The multi-sport team relay event first hit Bellingham in 1973, and since then it has been all hands on deck.
The famous race consists of seven different legs. The first two legs, which begin in the Mt. Baker ski area, are cross-country skiing and downhill snowboarding. After the team members get off the mountain the running leg begins, followed by the first water leg: canoeing. When racers reach land once more, the cyclocross bike leg begins, which requires riders to bike on-road and off-road, with the race concluding with sea kayaking.
Regal Cinemas suspect in custody for alleged bomb threat during ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ arraignment set for May 10
The suspect who was arrested by Bellingham Police for making an alleged bomb threat at the Regal Cinemas Barkley Village 16 appeared in Whatcom County Superior Court on Monday, April 29. Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Richey said the alleged bomb threat was pre-planned and terrorized the community.
Early morning advisory gave campus a scare
The campus community was alerted to the presence of a man who had what appeared to be a rifle slung over his shoulder via Western Alert on Tuesday, May 14, around 5 a.m.
According to the alert, University Police responded to the incident after a late night shuttle driver was approached by the man, who reportedly said “Don’t worry about all this. There are a lot of bad people out tonight that I need to take care of.”
